Everything You Need to Know About Intra Company Transfers in Canada

Catagories:

May 26, 2022

For many people, exciting work opportunities can pose an option to relocate. A new vacancy within your firm’s international offices may be your way of immigrating to Canada. You can start an exciting new job and explore a new city without the dreaded hassle of looking for a job. Canada is currently experiencing labour shortages, so this might be your chance!

How to Apply

Within the Intra Company Transfer program, a company can transfer essential personnel from its overseas headquarters to its Canadian branch. Under this scheme, the staff is awarded work visas. The temporary resident criteria, which include a temporary resident visa, must be met in addition to any other legal obligations to work in Canada temporarily.

All foreign nationals intending to work in Canada must get a Canadian work permit. As an intra-company transferee under the International Mobility Program, candidates can get a work permit without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Eligibility

However, both the employee and the firm must meet numerous requirements to qualify for this exemption.

Employee

The worker must be employed by a global corporation for at least a year (full-time) within the last three years. They must also wish to work in the company’s Canadian branch, parent, affiliate, or subsidiary and are required to apply for either an executive-level or managerial level position with specialized knowledge.

Enterprise

Additionally, the firms in and out of Canada must have one of the following relationships: branch, affiliate, subsidiary, or parent company. The enterprises must also prove that they have business dealings. This indicates that they provide goods and services on a regular and consistent basis. Just having a location in Canada will not meet the criteria.

Work permit applications can be submitted in various ways, including a Visa Application Centre or online, depending on the foreign national’s country of residency and citizenship.
